National Craft Month

For those of you who missed it completely, March was National Craft Month. I'm pretty sure that March Madness may have overshadowed it for some of you. I'd thought I'd post some pictures of crafts that I've enjoyed here lately.

This is the baby blanket that we didn't make at Christmas. Sarah helped me tie it, I finished it and it now belongs to Afton.

I am making a dress for Afton to wear when she is blessed. All I have done so far is the little bonnet. But I think it's pretty cute.

Sarah painted this Valentine's Day craft while she was home. You can just barely see the glitter that makes it sparkly.

I'm not very good at telling who a baby looks like. If I can tell, it's pretty obvious. So I'll post the pictures and let you form your own opinions.

Here's baby Afton at age 1 day:

And here's Joseph, a little older than 1 day, but not much. I think there are some similarities.

Of course, I don't have any baby pictures of Tracy to compare. But I'd say at least some of the Scoresby genes have come through. Joseph was quick to notice that Afton's second toe is longer than her big toe. Although my feet are beautiful, with each succeeding toe smaller, I think every one of our kids have the long second toe. Some even have a really long third toe. For those who don't know this interesting fact, that's a trait of people from Yorkshire, England, which is where the Scoresbys are originally from. Some of my mom's ancestors are also from Yorkshire and she does have the long second toe. The jury's still out on whether the baby's feet will be long, like Tracy's, though.

And it's hard to tell, but it looks like Afton's hair is pretty straight. It takes a really special person to pray that their child will have Scoresby hair, which Tracy did. She may regret that at some point, especially when her curly hair is so pretty.

We're thankful that baby Afton, our long-awaited baby, is safely here.

Today while I was putting a few things away in Janet's dresser, I counted her mesh shorts, gym shorts, athletic shorts, whatever you want to call them. (They are not all mesh.) She had 19 in her drawers! That doesn't include anything that was in the laundry basket or anywhere else. When I asked her to guess how many, she guessed 11. When I inquired why in the world she needs 19 pairs of shorts, she said, "Variety, Mom." At least today is closer to shorts wearing weather--42 degrees and sunny. (That's shorts weather in Wisconsin!)

I'm afraid to count the T-shirts. I think she still has some from grade school.

#5

Well, yesterday we took Sarah to the airport and said goodbye to the 5th missionary from our family. She was so very, very excited to go. And she didn't cry and I didn't even cry much, just a little after she walked away to the gate. She will be a great missionary and had great blessings promised to her, both when she was set apart and when Rene gave her a father's blessing. Here are some photos of when she was set apart and at the airport.

We will post her letters and pictures on her blog and keep her address current, both on her blog and on the Scoresby Scribble home page.

We love you, Sas!

Well, Janet's basketball season is over. They lost last night in the sectionals to Marshfield, who has a very good team. It's been a great year. It has been fun to watch Janet as she has played and served as a captain of the team. One of the things that has made this season so memorable is that so many friends have turned out to support her. Last night at the game, there were 19 of our friends from church there to see her play and Rene's friend Tim from work. It's just so much fun to share it all with others. Janet has been blessed with good friends, too. Her friends Jodi and Casie have come to most of the games, including some of the out of town ones. This week, they have done some special things for Janet. On Tuesday night, they came over and brought her two cakes. One was a basketball and one was her jersey with her number on it. Then, for the game last night, they made special t-shirts. I've included the pictures here. It's a little hard to see, but the front says "She shoots, she's Scoresby." The back lists a whole bunch of stuff Janet enjoys. It was sweet of them. Jodi also took most of the pictures of basketball that I've posted on the blog.

And now, on to soccer....

It was 23 years ago today that we moved into our house in Mount Vernon. At, the time, it seemed so big and roomy to us. Now, hardly anyone can believe that we raised 6 kids in a house with only one bathroom. But I think it served us well and that our kids had a happy childhood in that house and neighborhood. One of the best things about it was the big yard. The kids spent lots of time playing outside. I remember tetherball, handball, sledding down the hill from the neighbors, rolling down the hill in the front yard, the playhouse and sandbox, the swingset that we bought with our first income tax return after moving there, some game the kids made up where they would ride their bikes up to the back door and hand paper "orders" of some kind through the door. We had apple trees, a grapevine, a big garden and the big pine tree in front. One of the best things was the neighborhood. When we first moved there, there were all kinds of kids, who pretty much all played together. Joanna and Rachel Varughese were inseparable for many years. By the time we moved, the character of the neighborhood had changed and there weren't many kids there anymore. I lived in that house longer than I have lived anywhere in my life. I think it was a blessing for our family.
