The girls' wedding reception at our home was last Saturday night. The weather was nice, which was good because our air conditioning went out that morning. It was fun to be together again and everyone was good help. Our friends and family were so supportive and it was a lovely evening.
There were two special "surprises", although I knew about both of them. Our dear friend Pam flew to her daughter's in Minnesota and they drove over together with Jenny's sweet little baby girl. Also, my brother Phil, his wife Julie and some of their family drove all the way from New York City for the evening. We enjoyed seeing them, visiting with them afterwards, and going out for ice cream with them later that evening. What a measure of support that is!! Unfortunately, I didn't get many pictures. Fortunately, our friend Leesa, who is an awesome photographer, came and took pictures. I'll post some when I get some.

Cake Artiste
Our daughters' wedding receptions this summer were really lovely. One of the best things about both were the cakes. Both were made by my sister, Emily. She is always so willing to come and to help with the cakes, making sure the bride gets exactly what she wants. The two cakes were very different, but both were beautiful and yummy! Emily had to battle obstacles both times, too. At Joanna's, it was very hot and humid, even inside Emily and Preston's apartment, where the cakes were made. At Sarah's, it was also hot, but the since the reception was outside, the hot, hot weather was a major concern.

Emily is also really good help with the food, clean-up, etc, at a wedding. She dipped all the strawberries for Ben and Shannon's wedding and the whole Pitts family helped out at Emily and Preston's. Thanks so much, Em! Love you!

Say Cheese!
Thanks, Joanna and Sarah, for getting married so close together! It gives us a great chance to be together and to spend precious time with our family.

One down...
...and one to go.
Joanna and Ben's wedding on Saturday was a sweet and long-awaited day. We couldn't have done it without the help of my mom, my sister Emily, and our kids (which includes the in-laws!!) Thanks also to our friends and family who came from far and wide to support Joanna and Ben. Your love and support mean everything to us and to them! (For a peek at the pictures taken by our friend and photographer, Leesa, see http://leesagphotography.blogspot.com/.)

Berry Delicious
Besides weddings, church assignments, housecleaning and redecorating, what's going on around here? The raspberries are on! Mmmm....we could never grow good red raspberries in Ohio, but wow, we've had good luck here. They are just coming on now and last night I went out and picked this bowlful.

What do we do with our berry bounty? I've already made one batch of freezer jam, with many more to come so that we can share. I also can them and canned raspberries over vanilla ice cream are fantabulous. But with the berries from last night, I made this tasty raspberry trifle.
Too bad it's just Rene and I here today. I guess we'll have to sacrifice and eat it all ourselves!
Some of these berries are huge. I tried to take a picture, but I apparently cannot hold and take a picture with one hand without it being blurry. But take my word on it that some of these berries are wider than my thumb and as long as my thumb from the tip to the first joint.
