I found a cute pattern and bought a diaper made from that pattern to check it out. These diapers are absolutely adorable! They are expensive. One of these nice diapers costs about as much as a box of disposables. But modern cloth diapers also seem to have a high, high resale value, even when well used. There is a whole Internet group where you can swap and sell diapers.
So, here are some pictures. First, here is the diaper I bought. Next are some diapers that I made. Joanna helped with putting the snaps on.

There are two kinds of diapers here. One is called an all-in-one. Those that I made have an inner layer of wicking fabric, a layer of diaper flannel, four layers called a "soaker" made out of some kind of absorbent fabric, another layer of flannel, a layer of waterproof fabric called PUL, and a cute outer layer. The other kind of diaper is called a pocket diaper. It has a wicking inner layer, a double layer soaker, the waterproof layer, and the outer layer. It is made with a pocket into which you put whatever kind of absorbent cloth you want--a folded up towel or prefolded diaper or whatever. The advantage of this kind is that you can take the absorbent stuff out so it all dries faster. The all-in-ones apparently take awhile to dry.
How will they work? I don't know. Emily and Preston's decision on whether to use cloth or not will probably be determined, at least in part, by what laundry facilities are available to them in their new place in St. Paul. But at some point, someone will wear these cute diapers and I'll let you know how it goes.
Also, here's one last cake we made for Emily's baby shower. Joanna was the decorator for this cake.

Very cute on the cake and the diapers! Sounds like you've been having a lot of fun.
Wow. I wondered if people use cloth diapers today. Those are really cute. IT'll be interesting to see how well they work and if Emily decides to use them....will they be coming to the reunion?
Holy cow, they don't make diapers like they did when I was swaddling baby bottoms! Those are so cute, but I still would NEVER want to have to go back to cloth. I used them on my first two kids and hated every minute of it with the exception of folding. I loved folding diapers and stacking them in the diaper holder!
Johanna, Love the cake! So cute :O)
